This guys is rad... I don't agree completely with everything he says (I think the biggest loser does more good than harm) but he definitely has some really good stuff to say. If nothing else you MUST check out the last 2 minutes of what he has to say. Disgusting and awesome. Oh yeah... and I did get the Taco Bell Diet combo the other day, but I'm not foolish enough to think that it was in any way healthy or designed to help me lose weight.

Think about participating in a "Lazy Man's Ironman". It's a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike ride, and a 26.2 mile run. But, you get the ENTIRE MONTH of January to do it all! Little bits at a time. And you don't have to 'run'. You can do elliptical or whatever... Think about it! It'll be a good way to get 2010 started!

Paul, talks about his struggle allot in the scriptures but this particular take just hit home with me. We can use so many things as excuses, but the bottom line is, are you being willfully stupid? Jesus talks in Mark chapter 7 about how it's not so much the about the physical, but it's about our heart and our intentions. There is an amazing series from Andy Stanley called "It came from within" where Andy talks about how we need to learn to monitor our heart rather than just putting a filter on our mouths and actions. You may temporarily prevent yourself from saying or doing something, but if those things live in your heart, they will eventually find their way out. This can apply to so many things... Even living lives of mediocrity and foolishness. How do we make ourselves find the motivation and strength to do what we know is right? How do we choose to monitor our hearts and not just suppress an action? I don't want to make decisions based on consequences... I want to make decisions from a genuine heart of love and faith. I welcome your thoughts/comments/ideas.

Mark 7:17-23 (The Message)

Random thoughts from an email I got... Too awesome to keep to myself. It's funny how many actually apply to me. Feel free to leave a comment with what you think or how many describe you.

More often than not, when someone is telling me a story all I can think about is that I can't wait for them to finish so that I can tell my own story that's not only better, but also more directly involves me.

Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.

Have you ever been walking down the street and realized that you're going in the complete opposite direction of where you are supposed to be going? But instead of just turning a 180 and walking back in the direction from which you came, you have to first do something like check your watch or phone or make a grand arm gesture and mutter to yourself to ensure that no one in the surrounding area thinks you're crazy by randomly switching directions on the sidewalk.

That's enough, Nickelback. (I could actually insert about a million band names here but Nickelback works fine)

I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger.

The letters T and G are very close to each other on a keyboard. This recently became all too apparent to me and consequently I will never be ending a work email with the phrase "Regards" again.

Do you remember when you were a kid, playing Nintendo and it wouldn't work? You take the cartridge out, blow in it and that would magically fix the problem. Every kid in America did that, but how did we all know how to fix the problem? There was no Internet or message boards or FAQ's. We just figured it out. Today's kids are soft.

Sometimes, I'll watch a movie that I watched when I was younger and suddenly realize I had no idea what the f was going on when I first saw it.

I think everyone has a movie that they love so much, it actually becomes stressful to watch it with other people. I'll end up wasting 90 minutes shiftily glancing around to confirm that everyone's laughing at the right parts, then making sure I laugh just a little bit harder (and a millisecond earlier) to prove that I'm still the only one who really, really gets it.

How the heck are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?

I would rather try to carry 10 plastic grocery bags in each hand than take 2 trips to bring my groceries in.

The only time I look forward to a red light is when I'm trying to finish a text.

I hate leaving my house confident and looking good and then not seeing anyone of importance the entire day. What a waste.

I like all of the music in my iTunes, except when it's on shuffle, then I like about one in every fifteen songs in my iTunes.

As a driver I hate pedestrians, and as a pedestrian I hate drivers, but no matter what the mode of transportation, I always hate cyclists.

Sometimes I'll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is.

I keep some people's phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call.

My 4-year old son asked me in the car the other day "Dad what would happen if you ran over a ninja?" How the heck do I respond to that?

I think the freezer deserves a light as well.

Here is a band that revived my faith in "Christian" music. At least this style anyways. This song is extremely powerful. It seems to have a way of getting to me every single time I hear it. I am extremely grateful for these guys. Evidently they are in the studio working on a new album right now. OK... So here's a little game. I'll give you a response and then you have to pick the scenario that led to that response. Here goes:

A. I am dropping out of school.
B. I bought a new car without telling anyone.
C. I gave my two week notice at work.
D. I have decided not to watch LOST anymore.

And the winner is... DING DING DING DING - It's C. I gave my two week notice at work!!! Hooray for me! OK, so that was yesterday. Today was a whole different story. Not only was my resignation received, they offered to let me leave as of today AND get paid for the two week notice, AND get paid out for any vacation time that I had in the bank. What happened between yesterday at 4:30 pm and 9:00 am this morning? I have no idea but it's pretty much freakin awesome. Let me answer this real quick... Yes I have another job lined up and I am very excited to get started. I will be working for SUN Microsystems, specifically with remote labs and SUN Learning Services. Pretty much freakin awesome.

Oh... and for those of you who choose option D. I want you to go stand in front of a mirror and punch yourself in the face. Not watch LOST anymore?!?! That's just foolishness.

This is truly a great song... These guys always had a way with their music. Not always appropriate and more than willing to wag their middle finger in the face of criticism, they have definitely earned their place as one of the best bands of their style, ever. Sorry... I didn't get a Song o' the Day up yesterday. Hopefully today's will make up for it. This is a band that I hesitated to get into for a very long time but once I finally did, I had to wonder what my problem was. This is one of the few bands that have really re-created themselves from album to album and I don't seem to mind one bit. From pop punk to hardcore to mellow ambiance, these guys cover a very wide variety of music, yet each album is distinctly their own. Enjoy, "Artist in the Ambulance" by Thrice.

This song reminds me of my brother Tim. I miss him very much. This is definitely one of my favorite bands ever, let alone favorite "Metalcore" band. There is something that just grabs you and won't let go. I discovered them right after there first full length album came out in 2000... and even tho it wasn't the best thing I had ever heard, it really stuck with me. Lyrically they are right on track. Seriously... You can say what you want but this song is freakin awesome. I remember making a music video to this song in high school with a bunch of us guys playing basketball and pretty much being "awesome". No sort of electronic or dance music will ever share the majesty or level or "super coolness" as those from the late 80's and early 90's.
